When does electrical work need to be certified?

Certain work in the home needs to be certified by a registered NAPIT CPS electrician.

If you, as the homeowner, do not receive an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) after certain electrical work, your home insurance could be affected. Additionally, you may need to purchase indemnity insurance when selling your property in the future. NAPIT CPS-registered electricians can certify electrical work, ensuring compliance with safety regulations in coordination with your local building control.

Examples of when an electrical installation certificate (EIC) needs to be issued.

  • Consumer unit (fuse box) replacement
  • EV chargers
  • Installation of a new circuit such as garden lighting or electric shower
  • Any new work in a bathroom

As a NAPIT CPS-registered electrician, I can test and certify all new electrical work, ensuring it meets the latest technical standards, including BS 7671. Electrical regulations evolve rapidly, with updates each year, and it is my responsibility to stay up to date with these changes to ensure safety and compliance.
